Sport Premium Funding 2022 – 2023 COMPLETED At Blaydon West Primary School, we recognise the contribution of PE to the health and well-being of the children. We believe that an innovative, varied PE curriculum and extra–curricular opportunities have a positive influence on the concentration, attitude and academic achievement of our children.
Our Primary School Sports’ Funding will enable us to continue and extend our provision through employing additional sports professionals, entering into more competitive sports competitions and training our staff to deliver in–house quality PE sessions.
What is Sports Premium?
The Government is providing ‘new, substantial primary school sport funding. This funding is being jointly provided by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport, and will see money going directly to primary schools to spend on improving the quality of sport and PE for all their children. The sport funding can only be spent on sport and PE provision within schools.
Who is eligible?
Funding for schools will be calculated by the number of primary-aged pupils (between the ages of 5 and 11) as at the annual schools census.
All schools with 17 or more primary-aged pupils will receive a lump sum of £16000.
Schools will have to spend the sport funding on improving their provision of PE and sport, but they will have the freedom to choose how they do this.

School Swimming
We place high value on supporting our children to develop swimming skills. Our Year 3 children are taught to swim by specialist swimming teachers at Blaydon Leisure Pool. Year 3 attend once a week for the full academic year and are supported to reach (and in some cases exceed) the recommended government guidelines.

At Blaydon West Primary School, the Primary PE and Sport premium has not been used to supplement national curriculum swimming requirements.
