Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) – the Local Offer
The Government has asked all local authorities in the UK to publish, in one place, information about the services and provision they expect to be available in their area for children and young people from 0 to 25 who have Special Educational Needs and/or a Disability (SEND).
This is known as the Local Offer. Further information about the Gateshead Local Offer can be accessed via the link below.
Gateshead Local Offer SEND 0 to 25 years
The local authority SEND information advice and support service (SENDIASS) is a one-stop shop for parents, carers and young people with SEND offering independent advice, information and support on SEND provision and processes. This includes providing an independent supporter, if you would like one. SENDIASS can help you to compile a contribution to a statutory assessment or voice any concerns you may have. Further information about SENDIASS can be accessed by the link below.

Blaydon West Primary School – Our Offer
Blaydon West Primary School aims for all children to be included, regardless of whether they have special educational needs or not. We will provide equal opportunities for all children, which will allow them to experience success and achievement and to reach their full potential.
Special educational needs and / or a disability can affect many children throughout their school career and beyond. Whilst disabilities generally affect children long-term, not all SEND difficulties should be seen as life-long. SEND is seen by our school as when a child requires provision that is additional to, or different from, the rest of the class. For example, additional needs may be due to coordination problems, number understanding or significant sight problems, and every child is unique. A carefully planned approach is needed, additional to high quality class teaching, in order for these children to achieve as well as they can.
If you have any questions about our SEND offer please contact the school office (0191 41432866) and ask to speak to our SEND co-ordinator: Ms K Mcnally).
Our school has a variety of key policies which directly impact upon our provision for children with SEND:
- SEND Policy
- Admission Arrangements
- Anti-Bullying
- Equalities Objectives
- Supporting Medical Conditions
