The importance of reading with your child

Sharing a book with a child is fun! It’s a time for closeness, laughing and talking together – and it can also give children a flying start in life and help them become lifelong readers.

Choosing a book for your child

It is important to find a book that your child enjoys, use the front cover and the blurb to make an initial choice and don’t be afraid to abandon something your child does not enjoy we want to create lifelong readers based on their own personal choice.

Using the AR Book finder you can insert a personal choice into the search bar and a list of books appears – children in KS2 can read these books and quiz on them with Accelerated Reader in school.

EYFS

Most children are fascinated by books, sounds and letters and we would love our parents and carers to support and encourage this. Anything that you do to develop your child’s love of language is a good thing. To prepare them for their phonics journey we would encourage reading a wide range of books, listen to all kind of sounds, make all kinds of sounds and talk about all kinds of sounds.
