    Observing chemical changes

    Year 5 have been observing chemical changes that are irreversible. They have looked at the substances before they are mixed and after to see what new products have been made. They added red cabbage indicator to water, hand soap and vinegar and added vinegar to milk and bicarbonate of soda.

    This morning Year 5 have had a great time exploring Gibside using GPS trackers to locate different hidden boxes within the grounds of Gibside. Once found, they had to complete different tasks linked to nature.

    Drawing shapes with spheros!

    Yesterday Year 5 used the Spheros for the first time. These small electronic devices can be moved using an app. We worked on controlling the spheros using the draw function to get the sphero to move in different shapes.

    Grassroots : Tennis

    Last week Year 5 took part in their first tennis session with the Grassroots coach. They began by warming up with various stretches before working on their throwing and catching skills with the tennis balls. They then used the tennis rackets to develop their ball control skills.

    Science Investigation : What is the optimum angle for furthest distance?

    This afternoon we have been investigating our own question using fair testing. We had great fun carrying it out in the hall. We found the optimum angle to be 150 degrees by launching the javelins at different angles multiple times and calculating the average distance.
