At Blaydon West Primary School, we place a great emphasis on the importance of our children being able to consider and respond to a range of important questions relating to their own spiritual development, the development of values and attitudes and fundamental questions concerning the meaning and purpose of life.
- Lessons link to units of learning focusing on beliefs, traditions and celebrations throughout the year
- Exciting and engaging lessons
- Teachers present knowledge clearly, and effectively model and teach skills
- Teaching a variety of world religions: Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Hinduism, Humanism
- Exploration of artefacts and places of worship
- CPD to support teacher subject knowledge
- Show skills and knowledge through displays
- Expose children to the practise of religion either by visiting places of worship or through visitors who share effective and relevant experiences of their religion.
In our Early Years Foundation Stage, we aim to:

- Foster positive attitudes to diversity and difference
- Guide children to make sense of their world and community.
In Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2, children study the Gateshead Agreed Syllabus for RE and we aim to:
- Engage, inspire and challenge pupils
- Equip pupils with the knowledge and skills to consider and respond to questions of meaning and purpose
- Encourage children to think critically and develop a more rigorous understanding of beliefs and practices in the community and wider world
- Promote pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development.
