Chemical Weathering
Yesterday, Year 3 carried out a range of tests in order to gain a better understanding of how rocks can change due to chemical weathering. As rain often contains acidic chemicals (especially acid rain!), the children investigated dropping a few droplets of vinegar (an acidic substance) onto a range of different rocks (which they selected themselves through applying their knowledge and understanding of metamorphic, sedimentary and igneous rocks), before observing what happened i.e. looking for any physical changes such as fizzing, erosion etc.
