Today year 5 and 6 went down to the Quayside and spent the morning at Bessie Surtees house learning all about The Great Fire of Gateshead. We looked at lots of different artefacts and found out about the people who lived at the time of the Great Fire.
We then began to find out about where and how the fire started: Charles Bertram’s cloth factory. We began to find out about him and more about the fire by looking at a census from 1851 and listening to Richard ( That a History Bloke) while we walked across the swing bridge to the Gateshead side of the Quayside and St Mary’s Heritage Centre.
We have found out so much today about the Great Fire of Gateshead from Richard and can’t wait to learn more back at school!
