This week Maria from Gateshead Library visited Year One with a “Zoom into Space” story chest. Whilst she was here she introduced all of the different fiction and non-fiction texts from inside the chest as well as a variety of resources such as a hand puppet and an astronaut costume. She even shared some of the space-themed stories that she had kindly brought for the children to explore; “Man on The Moon” by Simon Bartram being a popular favourite amongst them.

Once they had finished listening to the stories, the children then carried out an activity which required them to place an alien at a range of Blaydon’s popular landmarks (these were photographs) and describe what they might do when faced with different scenarios. The children came up with some fantastic ideas. You may even say they were “out of this world”.
