This week the children have been learning to tell the time to the hour. First we explored a giant clock and discussed its special features. For instance some people said: “it has a big hand and a small hand”; “it has numbers one to twelve on it”; the hands go around the clock”. We then talked about special times of the day such as lunch time, tidy-up time and that they have specific times i.e. 12 o’clock, 3 o’clock etc.

Next we explored where the hands are to be positioned for an o’clock time. Once we had mastered telling the time on our small clocks, we then worked in pairs to play a sequencing activity which required us to challenge our friends to match their clocks to the same time that they we had on ours whilst also acting out something that we would usually do at that particular time of day.
