Yesterday Year 2 enjoyed a visit to Beamish to learn more about Florence Nightingale. They took part in a workshop which prepared them to be a nurse in 1800’s, working alongside Florence Nightingale to treat injured soldiers in Scutari, Turkey. They learnt how to make ginger biscuits to make the soldiers tummy’s feel better, how to keep the hospital clean to prevent the spread of infection and how to treat wounds using bandages.
They also discovered how life now, and life in the 1800’s was different and everyday tasks were accomplished without modern conveniences.
An all round excellent day out where the children gained lots of knowledge and experience
