To round up Year One’s week of maths learning, we threw a fraction-themed “Space Party”. First we started by looking at how to share our snacks evenly which required us to cut cheese, grapes and tomatoes into halves and quarters. The tomatoes were a very messy job indeed. We then moved on to shapes. This was a bit tricky as not all of the shapes could be divided in to quarters, but at least our circle-shaped pizzas and cuboid-shaped cheese could be! The final preparation for our “fraction feast” was halving numbers and quantities. This was a very important part of the week as we had to make sure that everyone had the same amount of juice and the same number of flying saucers.

Now for the best bit…
